“The Youth Protagonism in High School” was written by Alda Sousa. Below, what I learned by reading this text.
- “Protagonist” is the same as “main competitor” or “first fighter”.
- Today, this word summons the idea of “main character” of a story.
- The participation of students in the democratic management of the school is a form of youthful school protagonism.
- The entire community should participate in the construction of the school as a democratic educational space.
- Education, from childhood, should encourage critical thinking and autonomy.
- In the past, basic education had the function of preparing students for college or workforce, but now there are people demanding that the school should prepare the student for the future in general, giving him the means to better achieve his personal goals.
- The student be able to learn from all experiences, só he won’t feel like there’s nothing more to learn.
- The political principles of secondary education: equality, ethics, aesthetics, identity, diversity, autonomy, interdisciplinarity and contextualization.
- Students should learn how to live in and take advantage of a democratic and republican state.
- “Protagonism” is something related to the human sciences.
- Stimulating a youthful protagonism is not something that can be done if we alienate the student from the science of his time.
- The student must be informed of the social problems of his society.
- The student should be able to use and modify the information obtained at the school, not simply assimilate it.
- The school has the autonomy to write and apply its own pedagogical proposal.
- The creation of such proposal enables the protagonism of the teachers as well.
- Young people are protagonists when they are agents, when they are free to take actions that impact society.
